Our History

Carroll’s Jewelers is a family-owned and operated traditional jewelry store. Carroll’s was founded by Carroll Seghers in Cincinnati, Ohio, in the 1930s and relocated later to South Florida. We are grateful to be celebrating four generations of service. The highest level of customer service and consumer protection is a cornerstone at Carroll’s. The highest ethical and professional standards have always been required to work for the Carroll Jewelers Family.

Carroll Seghers was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on December 6 in the year 1900, the second son of very proud and adored but penniless parents. Around 1913 his mother, Mary Eleanor Elder, relocated Carroll and his brother to Cincinnati, Ohio, to be with their sisters.

Carroll was not quite 14, and in the 8th grade, when a month before the end of the school year, he just quit school and managed to find a job. As 1914 was a depressing year, he feared that everyone would be looking for work when the schools were out. For years he worked in the world of elegant printing and advertising. On January 1, 1929, he started working for the Gruen Watch Company as an advertising executive. With innovation such as the “Pentagon,” the “Quadron,” the “Tank,” and later the Curvex, the Gruen Watch Company was one of the most highly regarded companies in the United States. Gruen became Carroll’s introduction into the world of fine watches and jewelry.

In the 1930’s Carroll bought a store in Cincinnati and changed the name to Carroll’s Jewelers.

After a few years of operating Stewart’s in Arkansas and Carroll’s in Cincinnati, he relocated to Coral Gables, Florida.

In the early fifties, backed by the Jr. Chamber of Commerce and the American Gem Society, Carroll hosted a program on Channel 17, public T.V., called “Facets.”

This new notoriety prompted Carroll to open his Fort Lauderdale location on Las Olas Boulevard.

Having worked their entire lives in the stores, Jeanne Ann (Carroll’s daughter) and Robert Moorman (her husband) purchased the stores in 1983. A little more than a decade later, their sons purchased the stores from them.

Stephen Moorman owned and operated Carroll’s Jewelers at 362 Miracle Mile, Coral Gables, FL, until 2013.

Currently, Robert Moorman Jr. owns and operates Carroll’s Jewelers at 915 East Las Olas Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, FL. Luke and John Moorman are the fourth generation of Carroll’s family and set the groundwork to purchase the store from their father.

Carroll spent the later years of his life being cared for by his grandson, Stephen Moorman, and his great-granddaughter Joy. Carroll would be very proud to know that his store has maintained the high levels of reliability and professional standards that he instilled from day one.

The Carroll’s Jewelers Family is grateful to celebrate four generations and over seventy-five years of service.
